She was born to Stefano and Paola Maino in contrada Màini (“Maini street”) in Lusiana, a little village 30 km from Vicenza in the region of Veneto, Italy. She spent her adolescence in Orbassano, a town near Turin, being raised in a traditional Roman Catholic family and attending a Catholic school. In 1964, she went to study English at the Bell Educational Trust’s language school in the city of Cambridge. She met Rajiv Gandhi, who was enrolled in Trinity College at the University of Cambridge in 1965 at a Greek restaurant while working there, as a waitress to make ends meet. Sonia and Rajiv Gandhi married in 1968, following which she moved into the house of her mother-in-law and then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. In 1980 her name appeared in the voter’s list for New Delhi prior to her becoming an Indian Citizen. At the time she was still holding Italian Citizenship. A violation of Form 4 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, which states that “Only the names of those who are citizens of India should be entered on the electoral rolls.” When she did acquire Indian Citizenship, in April 1983, the same issue cropped up again, as her name appeared on the 1983 voter’s list when the deadline for registering had been in January 1983. The Italian citizenship law of 1992 did open a window of opportunity for those who lost their citizenship prior to 1992 to re-register as Italian citizens until the deadline of 31 December 1997. This goes out to Rocky Tommaseo, co-founder of Rocky and Carlos Restaurant in Chalmette , La., a suburb that borders us 9th Warders and is home to many native 9th Warders. I am sad to report to you “yats” out there who remain displaced because of Katrina (and the Corp of Engineers) and haven’t heard, that Rocky passed away last Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009. He was 92. For me, it seems like Rocky and Carlos has been there forever however Rocky and Carlo Gioe opened Rocky & Carlo’s in April 1965. They were known for serving up heaping plates of veal parmigiana, macaroni and cheese and stuffed bell peppers. They were also known for their impromptu floor-shows. You see, it was mostly all family running the restaurant and seldom did a night go by without all that Italian blood reaching a boiling point. God, now that would have been great reality TV. What a missed opportunity. When hurricane Betsy roared into New Orleans back in late Sept, of 65, Rockey and Carlos remained opened. They didn’t have lights, but they had gas for fried chicken, so Rocky was telling the customers If you have money, give it. If you don’t have it, don’t worry about it, go ahead and eat. However, Katrina really kicked ass on the restaurant. It took them 18 months to reopen after the storm but they did so with long lines of hungry people who couldn’t wait to bite into some of their veal parmigiana. Sexy, irreverent and comical , Sam who cannot take his eyes off Ella as well as the many female guests that stop by, also run a very unique restaurant offering crazy dishes such as, Paxil Pasta, Looney Linguine, Anxiety Antipasto and Paranoid Pepperoni Pizza, one of Sams specialtys. Sam believes he is the poster child of most men . While Ella who Sam drives crazy tries to deal with his insane ways and fix all the damage that Sam can cause.

Francesca Valle, owner of Antica Corona restaurant in Cumiana (Torino) italy, introduces us to some of their most delicious recipes. Semifreddo al torrone Serve 4: 4 eggs, 400ml of cream, 100g sugar, 150g torrone, salt, 1 teaspoon of coffee powder Chocolate sauce: heat dark chocolate with milk in bain-marie, until completely melted. Sprinkle with orange powder and fresh strawberries.

“Pasta” covers the dreams and success of a young woman who aspires to become an elite chef at La Sfera restaurant. Seo Yoo Kyung started her career as a kitchen assistant at La Sfera restaurant. She eventually works her way up to become a chef. Choi Hyun Wook is the top chef at La Sfera restaurant. He studied the culinary arts in Italy and started out as a chef assistant at a hotel in Sicily. Hyun Wook eventually worked his way up to become the most widely recognized Italian chef in Korea.
