www.vitodibari.com The RCVLab at Queen’s University in Canada has found a way to turn the game of pool into a more precise and technological game. The students at Queen’s University have developed an augmented reality system called ARPool, which uses AG technology to assist shot planning and execution in a game of billiards. ARPool employs a range of cameras and sensors in order to calculate where the individual balls will go to when the cue ball is struck. The system can also display on the table where each ball will go in real-time directly on the surface of the table using 2D graphics. Today was a great day to go downtown. Makochan200 thought the same and we met up at Coffee Company Nieuwe Doelen. Chibi came along as well. After spending a couple of hours there and watching some of the ‘birds’ Makochan200 decided to go home. As for me, I went to the Chinese district at Zeedijk and I ended up at restaurant Kam Kee where I had a delicious dinner. The elder waitress recognized me from 7 or 8 years ago, when I visited a Chinese restaurant near the Albert Cuijp market every 6 to 8 weeks together with a group of anime and manga enthousiasts of SDV Anime. Marowijne, as that restaurant was called, no longer exists and the waitress ended up working at Kam Kee. Funny how Amsterdam still has the feel of a village quite often! After dinner, Chibi and I took a stroll through the Red Light District, also known as ‘De Wallen’ and took a tramride back to HQ from Dam Square.Enjoy watching and please humour Chibi by showing your Thumbs-Up! If you want to send me a postcard or some other mail, you can do so by sending it to my POBox. The address is in the video but for easy copy/pasting I put it down here as well: Carnager SDV & Chibi Postbus 67047 1060 JA Amsterdam The Netherlands

Summer evening on the beach at Scheveningen
Scheveningen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsxeːvənɪŋə(n)] ( listen)) is one of the eight districts of The Hague, as well as a subdistrict (wijk) of that city. Scheveningen is a modern seaside resort with a long sandy beach, an esplanade, a pier, and a lighthouse. The beach is popular for water sports such as windsurfing and kiteboarding.[1] A nudist section is 1 km to the north.
The harbor is used for both fishing and tourism.
Annual events include:
Winter swim on New Year’s Day, locally known as Nieuwjaarsduik (New Year’s dive)
Flags Day in spring when the first new herring of the year is auctioned
Fireworks in summer: once a week and several days during a festival week
A visit to Scheveningen can include:
The Sea Museum
The pier (nl); it has two floors, the upper one open air, the lower one closed in
The miniature city Madurodam
The sculpture museum Beelden aan Zee
The Panorama Mesdag
A visit to the beach.
Our Lady of Lourdes (RC) Silent Center, in a designated national landmark complex, housing a replica of the Lourdes Grotto in Massabielle (France). The chapel, located at Berkenbosch Blokstraat 9a, is open daily from 9am to 6pm.
Night life centers on Pathé Scheveningen movie theater, and the sea-front boulevard with its bars, restaurants, gambling halls and other entertainment.
If you love the idea of long walks on the beach with your beloved, then look no further than beautiful Apollo Bay, two and a half hours from Melbourne in the heart of the Great Ocean Road. A perfect couples retreat is high in the Otways in native bush seclusion at Chris’s Beacon Point Restaurant and Villas. Recent refurbishment gives the rooms a fresh and modern feel and you can choose a self-contained King or Queen studio or a villa for four people. Chris Talihamidis opened hislegendary restaurant in 1979 by and he still welcomes guests as if it were his own home. His food theory is “if it’s not fresh, it’s not on the menu”. Seafood is a specialty or there are southern European, middle eastern and classic Greek dishes. Entry from: Dubai, United Arab Emirates Entry Title: “A week of luxury in Dubai” Entry: “Dubai is quoted as being the most rich and powerful of the seven states that make up the UAE. On arrival you can tell that the place is driven by oil money which is quite tragic but impressive in terms of the sheer scale of the infrastructure. It is one major construction project with each building looking to break records in one form or another. When we arrived they were building the Burj, which when complete, will be the tallest building in the world! It is definately a showcase for world class construction projects. On stepping off the plane I’ve never known heat like it, even a previous trip to Vegas wasn’t this hot! We quickly got into the air-con taxi and headed to our hotel the Madinat Mina A’Salam. On arrival, you know you’re heading somewhere special, when you see people glammed up; with celebrities and sports personalities just strolling about. I did feel a little lower class and under dressed for the occassion! We were escorted in by the doorman and had our bags immediately taken to the room; they treated us like VIP’s! The hotel itself was jaw dropping in every aspect, certainly the most luxurious I’ve ever stayed in! The attention to detail by the staff was immense and they were eager to look after you …

Heavy rains and bad traffic didn’t deter Anjan Chatterjee from releasing his Mainland China Cookbook on Monday afternoon at a South Mumbai mall. The enterprising restaurateur is indefatigable. As a foodie and amateur cook, he had used his life’s savings to make his first trip abroad — and he chose China as his destination, crossing the Great Wall to “eat my way through the country, moving from city to village, absorbing the many nuances of traditional Chinese cooking”. When he returned, he promised himself he would one day start a new kind of Chinese restaurant that would give Indians a chance to taste authentic Chinese cooking. His chain of Mainland China restaurants, some 28 across the country, is the effort of that enterprise. They have won every major food award, including the Times Food Guide Award and the Golden Spoon. And, from the restaurant chain’s success has now come the book by Random House India, featuring Mainland China’s favourite dishes created by its director of food operations Chef Rajesh Dubey, all easily made in the home kitchen. The book was released by Anjan’s Bollywood buddy, filmmaker Raju Hirani of 3 Idiots and Munnabhai fame, at a simple ceremony attended by close friends of the restaurateur’s and his loyal employees. Foodie and adman Prahlad Kakar made an appearance, to lick his fingers after tasting the food that was cooked live at the book launch. Eminent Bengali writer-poet-painter and theatre artiste Shomshuklla was also present. As was …

Westin Harbour Castle
Early morning on June 20, 2008.
Buzz in our city’s busy restaurant scene is usually about new openings or closings, star chefs coming or going, the use of local ingredients, slow food or fast food, however, little emphasis has been placed about the generosity of the restaurateurs or their staff. On June 20, 2008, I had the pleasure of helping out at the annual Set Sail for Hope event raising nearly 0,000 for Camp Trillium. The single day affair benefits children suffering from cancer, where everything enjoyed was donated by 28 well established restaurants from the GTA and participation from chefs, including C5′s Teddy Corrado, Executive Chef Emerik Padjan from Fred’s Not Here (321 King Street West), Rodney’s Oyster House (469 King Street West), Jess Ostlund from Ruth’s Chris (145 Richmond Street West), as well as sous chefs and staff from Aqua Restaurante (10 Front Street West, BCE Place) were all voluntary.

gotta have some hot red stuff with that spicy yellow stuff and it’s tasty video by Jack D. Deal
CiCi loved visiting Times Square, but it was nearing Cici’s favorite time, food! Cici walked past MOMA, Museum of Modern Art, and found her destination, the China Grill, walked in and immediately loved the Chinese fusion restaurant. It has an open kitchen in the middle, and words inscribed in the beautiful floor tile describing Marco Polo’s adventures leading to China. And the food was incredible! ChipShop – Tables 2

With two locations in Brooklyn, NY, ChipShop offers “real-deal fish ’n’ chips” plus “deep-fried” desserts.
Having conquered the globe with an empire of fine-dining Latin joints, the Pompano guy’s adding Asian to the mix in the former Wild Salmon space, whose 180+ capacity’s spread out over a sake-bar sporting main dining room (wrought-iron windows, rope-suspended wooden beams, a massive iron chandelier) and a 2nd floor mezz that also has a bar, saving you from yelling downstairs “Hey, sake it to me!”. Envelope-pushing fusion starts with Peruvian tiraditos of wagyu beef w/ miso mustard, and sushi rolls like spicy tuna w/ sesame-chipotle sauce, while apps run from dim sum-ish (pork-mushroom gyoza, shrimp lettuce wraps w/ chorizo…) to antojito-esque, including duck breast/daikon tacos, and achiote-hoison pork arepas — hey, if they didn’t want to be eaten, why’d they come out looking so good. Entrees keep the vibe with fish such as chiptole-miso glazed black cod and hominy-sided chile BBQ salmon, while meatier options’re exemplified by Colorado lamb w/ edamame & hoisin-adobo sauce and braised short ribs with Oaxaca cheese, Shiitakes, and a fungal-disease-derived delicacy called huitlacoche, aka corn smut, which will keep telling you to work it’s cob. About Via Allegro’s Menu

Opening page.
I am certain that I am not the only individual who has arrived at the doorsteps of Via Allegro only to be taken aback by it’s rather lowbrow location (it’s in a strip mall close to the airport, sandwiched between an UPS and a Staples) and its, shall we label it, loud exterior. However, noting the constant mention of this fine establishment on the top ten lists in Toronto dining, I knew it was a must to press on and discover for myself what excellent food lied behind this garish exterior.
Entering the restaurant, things started to fall into place, although the large dining room was a tad boisterous, given that it was a lazy late Monday night crowd, our seating around 10pm was graciously received even though we were close to the kitchen’s last call. The large glass enclosed wine cellar, that faced the main entrance, is plastered with plaques and posters of the numerous awards and recognitions the restaurant has received, including the Wine Spectator’s Grand Award, four diamonds from the CAA/AAA, Whisky Magazine’s award for the best whisky list in the world, the Solid Gold Spoon for the best risotto in Toronto (2003), to name a few. At the table, a huge 4-inch binder holds the largest wine and spirits list that I’ve encountered, and even boasts of 750 scotch sel¬ections and 200 grappas that is found lining half of the restaurant’s walls.
Our friendly waiter was cheerful and helpful, especially noting that we were first-timers who were overwhelmed with the breadth of the menu. Divided into the Signature Seasonal that’s offered à la carte or as a thematic tasting menu and the Classic Italian from 1996-2006 containing Via’s clientele favourites listed by year and version number, we note that there are special highlights for the Platinum Artisanal steak and veal chops. There is even an informational section at the back of the menu detailing the Platinum Artisanal designation, the degree of doneness for the meats, the significance of the veal served at Via and as well the availability for purchase of the 50- or 100-year-old balsamics used that ranged in the four digits. The latter was a tempting suggestion to round out a great dining experience, but perhaps worthy of consideration on our next visit (when the pocketbook allows for such extravagant purchases).
At first I thought to dive into the "Classic Dishes for Two" since there were two of us. The "Extravaganza Classico (from 2001)" sounded perfect as it appeared to have the greatest sampler of Via’s repertoire, showcasing a whole Nova Scotia lobster, Platinum Beef petite filet mignon, rack of lamb, seabass, jumbo black tiger shrimp and large sea scallops, along with a preserved lemon and arugula risotto, potatoes, vegetables and sauces for .95 per person, however our pleasant waiter advised against it unless we were "very, very hungry." (Anyone who knows me, know that I’m up for this challenge, as I feed like the hungry hungry hippo without being hungry hungry, but I must admit the concerned look that appeared with the statement that it was "a lot of food" did scare me.) In retrospect, after ordering a duo of appetizers and entrees, and knowing our resultant fullness, I am glad that we listened to his wise recommendation. I then noted that there was the “Moody Chef” tasting menu (.95) created by chef Lino Collevecchio, but unfortunately the chef was not in that night. Instead we went with our gut (literally) and were treated to one of the best meals I’ve had in 2007.
Highly recommended. I can appreciate the reason for great recognition of this long standing institution, which deals greatly with the quality (and quantity) of the food offered. For unobtrusive and affable service, this is the place to bring friends and family for any social gathering, without feeling the guilt of enjoying your night out too much or the discomfort of feeling out of place. If only it wasn’t located so far away…
